––––––––

When a truly good man passes away there is universal mourning. Such was the feeling in this community when it was announced last Sunday morning that Alexander Stanton was no more.

Mr. Stanton came to this county from Rush county about thirty years ago, and no one has impressed his individuality upon the growth and development of this community more than he. He has been prominently identified with the moral growth and welfare of this place for thirty years. He was a man of strong convictions and unflinching integrity, and his fearless conscientious and uncompromising position in every social and moral reform, has been proverbial.

For many years Mr. Stanton was a devout member of the Christian church, and in his death the church has lost a strong pillow; the community one of its strongest champions of right, and the home a loved husband and kind father. He leaves behind him a sorrowing wife and four sons, whose keen sorrow vibrates a sympathetic cord at many a hearthstone.

The funeral services were conducted in the Christian church on Monday forenoon, by the Rev. E. L. Frazier, and were largely attended, and owing to the long and upright life of the deceased, were most impressive and touching.
