In 1835 Henry S Kendall purchased, in Campbell County, ABRAM McGINDER.  Henry's father, Joseph Kendall of Bourbon County, Kentucky had purchased Abram when he was two years old.  After serving Joseph and his family until 1835, Abram was bought by Henry.

They went to Shelby County, Indiana where they lived for four years; a total of six years in Indiana.  It was on October 5, 1841, when in Shelby County, that Henry told the story of Abram.  He stated that Abram was a "a coloured man now about 31 years of age, about 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high."

Upon Abram executing his note in the sum of $200 to Henry, he "manumated said Abram."
