Anna Taliaferro took her family to Brownsville, Pennsylvania, where she bought 2 flatboats for the trip down the Ohio River. In addition to her own family, she brought along the Taft family, who were relatives, 60 slaves and all of their possessions.

Anna Hubbard Taliaferro, daughter of Robert Taliaferro and Anna Taylor, and John Todd planned to be married so on December 23, 1823, they entered into a contract "being desirous of securing to themselves and their Heirs respectively all such estate as they respectively possess at this time."

Ann made over to John N Taliaferro and James B Taliaferro for her "sole" use and her heirs and assigns forever, all the estate both real and personal and also all her right at this time possessed in "one negro man, Edmond, one negro man, Jesse; one negro boy, Kitt; one negro man, Humphrey; one negro boy Horatio; one negro boy, Edmond; one negro boy, Thornton; one negro woman, Violet; one negro woman, Clary; one negro woman Polly; one negro boy, Anthony; one negro boy, John, one negro boy, Walker; one negro boy, Lewis; one negro child, Coleman, one negro girl; Susan; one negro boy, James; one negro boy Henry; one negro girl, Mary; one negro child, Hannabel; one negro child Betsey;

four beds, bedsteads and furniture, five head of cattle; Twenty head of Hogs; two horses; house-hold and Kitchen furniture and faming utensils."
