Hattie Turner

NEWPORT

Mrs. Rose Turner, colored, residing at 103 East Second street, called on the police and Coroner Higgins yesterday and asked those officials to investigate the death of her daughter, Hattie Turner, aged 18, which she declares was due to her being hoodoed.

She says that Hattie had won the love of a colored minister, which made another colored girl jealous and the latter caused Hattie's death.

The Coroner and police refused to act, as the attending physician had signed a certificate stating that typhoid pneumonia had caused the girl's death.
