Robert Granville Ingguls
Information comes from a memorial book of Robert Granville Ingguls
It is with profound sadness that we announce the heavenly transition of Robert Granville Ingguls, age 94, of Newport, Kentucky, who entered eternal rest on Monday, September 15, 2025, in Ft Mitchell, Kentucky.
He was born on Friday, September 11, 1931, in Newport. Kentucky, the son of John Henry Ingulls and Mary Agnes Hutchinson. He was raised by his grandmother Ada Hutchinson. He lived at 338 Central Avenue in the heart of Sin City, a strip of organized crime, illegal gambling and entertainment establishments, where mobsters like Frank "Screw" Andrews, the notorious Payne Brothers from the neighborhood and certain family members made their presence known. It was Ada's early guidance and Christian training that would be Robert's saving grace.
"My grandmother was very instrumental in establishing the
importance of education. Through her diligence, I was able to read upon entering
the first grade and subsequently promoted to second grade." He attended the
Southgate Street School in Newport and the William Grant High School in
Covington. In 1950 he graduated with a scholarship to Fisk University in
Nashville. He worked for Dr. Chester Pryor and then accepted a position in
the ophthalmology resident training program at the University of Cincinnati.
