Staff Sergeant Andrew Ross


Staff Sergeant Andrew J Ross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ross, Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, is reported missing in action since Jan 21 by the War Department. The message received Wednesday by the parents, came on Sgt. Ross's twenty-third birthday anniversary and stated that he had participated in a mission to France.

He served in the Air Corps with a B24 Liberator crew.

The War Department listed Staff Sergeant Andrew C Ross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J Ross of Cold Spring, Tuesday as a prisoner of war interned in Germany. He had previously been reported missing since Jan 21, following action over France. Sergt. Ross is a bomber gunner on a Liberator bomber.

S. SGT. Andrew Ross, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ross, of Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, was released from a German prison camp May 11, his family was notified. A gunner, Sgt. Ross was previously listed as missing in action and was later taken prisoner.

Andrew Ross was born 2 Feb 1921 in Campbell County, the son of Thomas Ross and Mary Ann Bree. He married Evelyn Margaret Goetz. Andrew died 25 Feb 1995 in Cold Spring and was buried in St Joseph Cemetery in Cold Spring. He also received a Purple Heart.
