Southgate, Richard Esquire; #6-Court 9 Oct 1797 at the Court House in Newport.  Court order Book #A page 117. Produced his license authorizing him to practice by Law he is admitted on his motion to practice as an Attorney of this court. #8-Commonwealth Attorney 8 Jan 1798 Court House Newport. Court Order Book #A page 136.  Richard Southgate Esquire is appointed Commonwealth attorney for this Court.

Produced a License authorizing him to practice law in the courts of the Commonwealth whereupon the Oath of Fidelity and the Oath of office were administered to the said Daniel and it is ordered that it be recorded that he be considered as an Attorney of this court.
