KIA-PFC Charles E Webster, 23, son of Oscar Webster, of 715 Ann street, Newport, was killed in action Dec 13 on Leyte, the War Department has informed his family. He had been in the Pacific area one year. Pfc. Webster enlisted in the Army in 1940 and served 18 months with the infantry in Bermuda before his assignment in the east.
Before entering the Army he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Three brothers also are in the armed forces. They are Pvt. Woodrow Webster, Paul Webster, who is back in the states after two years in the Pacific area and Eugene Webster, seaman first class.
