RAILROADER DIES-Thomas Sargent, 25, proprietor of a confectionery store at 1122 Monmouth st. Newport, Tuesday was being held for preliminary hearing before Judge W C Buten in connection with the death of Clifford Fagin, 32, Cincinnati. Fagin a switchman in the employ of the Chesapeake & Ohio RR died in Speers Hospital, Dayton, late Monday as a result of a fractured skull.
Sargent told police Fagin came into his store with another man and both seemed to be intoxicated. There was an argument and he ordered the two men to leave. Sargent said he thought Fagin had a weapon, so he rushed him. William H Koehr, railroad employee of 15 E Seventh st. Newport told the coroner that he was in the store at the time and claims Fagin was struck while seated. Fagin's father, Abner Fagin, Cincinnati, who swore to a warrant against Sargent told police his son was en route to his work at Silver Grove Ky.
He said he stopped in the confectionery while waiting arrival of his train to take him to his work. His father is a retired Cincinnati patrolman and is not night detective at the Gibson Hotel, Cincinnati. Fagin is survived by his widow and a daughter, Virginia. Fagin will be buried Thursday from the funeral home of George H Rohde, Cincinnati. Services will be conducted at 2 pm.

SUSPECT ILL-Because of the illness of the defendant trial of Thomas Sargent, former owner of a confectionery store on Monmouth st. above 11th st. Newport, indicted for murder in connection with the killing of Clifford Fagin, railroad employee of Newport, last March, was continued by Judge A M Caldwell in the Campbell co. Circuit Court until Jan 5. According to Dr. J F Houston of Alexandria, Sargent is suffering from influenza and congestion of the lungs.
According to police, Sargent hit Fagin on the head with a heavy wooder ice jobber, following an argument in Sargent's store. Fagin is said to have aggravated Sargent by calling him an obsene name. Fagin is the son of a former Cincinnati policeman.
