Cora Amann

The resignation of Miss Cora Amann as Superintendent of Speers Hospital, Dayton Ky. Saturday, came as a surprise. Miss Amann had been connected with the institution for four years. It has been known to the public for months that the Board of Trustees has been having trouble in the courts, but no thought of Miss Amann's resignation ever occurred to anyone. This trouble was the indirect cause of the Superintendent's determination to give up her responsible position.

She is the daughter of Anthony Amann, who up to the time of his death, some months ago, was a prominent merchant in Newport. Miss Amann was seen by the Post at her home, 331 East Third st. Newport this morning.

"I feel just like a bird let out of a cage," she said. "For four years, I have held the position of Superintendent at the hospital, attended to the culinary department, audited all bills, and was responsible to the Board of Trustees for the conducting of the institution. I also had charge of the office and was kept at the hospital night and day, and not one who has not been through such a siege can appreciate the trouble, physical and mental that fell to my lot. No, I have had no trouble with the board.

"Of course, we differed at times, but not seriously. I have been considering this step for months and it is good to feel free again. I have no definite plans for the future, but will take a rest. It is hard to run a hospital of that size with limited means."

At the hospital regret is expressed at Miss Amann's move. Her conduct of the affairs of the institution has been satisfactory. Her resignation was only acted upon by the board Saturday and it asked for immediate release. Miss Amann could not say who will succeed her.
