PIONEER DEAD-Daniel Riedel, former Campbell co. sheriff and who served a term as Newport safety commissioner, passed away following a lingering illness at his home 111 W Sixth st. Newport, Sunday morning. He  had been in ill health for many months and because of his poor health did not become a candidate for re-election to the Newport City Commission at the last election. He suffered a relapse late Saturday and died Sunday morning.

Riedel was born in Campbell co. 71 years ago and spent all his life here. When a young man he engaged in steamboat business and served as mate and captain on packets plying in all trades on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
