MOVEMENT OF OUR FIREMEN

Upon the invitation of the Dayton firemen, the Washington Fire Company No 1 paid them a visit last fall; and as turn about is fair play, the Dayton Company, upon the invitation of the Newport firemen, will return the visit on Friday next.

VISIT OF THE DAYTON FIREMAN-The Neptune Fire Company from Dayton, of which F P Cuppan is President, in accordance with a previous announcement, paid the Washington Company No 1 of Newport, a visit yesterday.

A committee, appointed for the purpose, received them at the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad Depot, and escorted them to the ferry landing at the foot of York street. Their appearance on the opposite side of the Ohio was the occasion of an impromptu discharge of artillery from the companies commanded by Captain Collins, of Newport and Captain Hill of Covington, which made the neighboring hills echo with their reverberating thunder.

Formed in procession on York street, the Daytonians in the costume of scarlet blouse, black pant, patent leather belt and gray cap, marched up York street to the Washington Engine house on the northwest corner of Court house Square.

The Dayton Fire Department was officially formed in 1935 and is a combination paid-volunteer organization.  It was the first in the county that served the whole county with the exception of Ft. Thomas and Newport.  The river has always been a challenge to the duties of the fire department and has always had to be trained and prepared for the unexpected.

Some of the larger fires that it helped put out were the Perry & Derrick Paint Co., the Lincoln School, an apartment at 6th and O'Fallon and its own quarters with the city building.
