NEWPORT BRIEFS

Captain Duvall W Young, an old river man, died yesterday at Los Angeles, Cal.  He had been a resident of this city previous to leaving for the West about three years ago, and resided at Front and Monmouth streets.

Captain Young was one of the best known steamboat men in this vicinity.  He operated steamers on the Lower Mississippi before the war and later was engaged in the Cincinnati and Portsmouth trade.  He last ran on the Bonanza between the two cities.  his brother, William A Young, residing on Monmouth street, received the tidings of his death yesterday.

The funeral will take place tomorrow at Los Angeles.
