PROGRESS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD EXAMINATION-The examinations in the Public Schools commenced in the primary department yesterday morning, beginning in the room of Miss Lizzie Carnahan. Miss Carnahan is one of the recent appointments among our teachers, was raised in our schools and from the result of her display yesterday, we are convinced that she is doing excellent service in "teaching the young idea how to shoot."

She has under her charge between sixty and seventy scholars from seven to ten years of age and two weeks ago only six of whom could spell; but yesterday there were arrayed under her instruction twenty-six pupils who could spell words of two and three syllables.

There were also examination in the rooms of Miss Craig, Miss Gennis, Miss Lindsey, Miss Williamson and Miss Bell Marats. We happened in the department of Miss Marats and were much pleased with the exhibition of her scholars, who spelled well, recited well and sang very neatly evincing that she had  exercised a proper care of her scholars.

This morning the examinations will be continued in the rooms of Miss Bodley, Miss McGomas, Miss Alexnder and Miss McConnells.
