HEART ATTACK-Elmer Gray, Newport finance director, stricken with a heart attack Sunday while listening to a radio account of the Cincinnati Reds St Louis baseball game, will be buried Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery following services at 2:30 pm at the funeral home of Muehlenkamp, Costigan and Roll. Mr. Gray's death makes the sixth member of Newport's official family to die during the last six months.

Mr. Gray was seated with his wife, Alice and his son, Thomas, listening to the radio when he complained of feeling ill, then collapsed. The Life Saving Squad and a physician were summoned, but he was dead upon their arrival. Mr. Gray who was 53 years old had taken an active part in city affairs and Democratic politics for many years. He began his career as a page in the Cincinnati Library and later worked as a reporter on The Kentucky Post and the Kentucky edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

At the outbreak of the World War, Gray enlisted and served overseas. Upon his return after the war, he was named secretary-treasurer of the old Newport Commercial and Civic Association. In this position, Gray and a group of veterans organized the James Wallace Costigan Post, American Legion, Newport and later became the post's first commander. Mr. Gray took an active part in the affairs of the post and state Legion activities and was one of the organizations of the posts drum and bugle corps. Mr. Gray also served as a deputy under Sheriff Louis Tieman and also held other positions with the city of Newport.

Mr. Gray leaves his widow, two sons, Thomas and John; a brother, Charles Gray; his mother, Mrs. Adeline Gray and a sister Lina Gray all of Newport. City Manager Morlidge said all city officers will be closed Wednesday afternoon out of respect for the financial director and to permit city employees to attend the funeral.
