Ferry Crossing

From the book, Kentucky Days, by Dr. James L Stephenson
Submitted by a grandson Gerald Stephenson to Margaret Strubel Hartman in 1964

"It seems that Dr. James L Stephenson's father, Dudley had a brother, Reuben, and a sister, Eda Daniel, who lived near Grants Lick in Campbell County.  Dr. James L. describes one visit he made to these relatives.  To get there one had to cross the Licking River.  James says,

'When we came to the river, I felt a great fear entering the ferry boat, which was only large enough to take on a wagon and was propelled by the current.  The ferry man pulled on a rope stretched from bank to bank across the stream.  But my misgivings and fears proved groundless as we landed safely on the opposite shore where we took the road on."
