Short Line Railroad Round House

Cincinnati Enquirer, 9 November 1881, page 6

NEWPORT

The round house of the Short Line Railroad Company, at Taylor's Station, about two miles from this city was entirely consumed by fire yesterday. The fire originated from a torch, which ignited in some mysterious manner. The building being completely saturated with oil and some combustible material, it was a matter of impossibility to control the flames.

the building was a half circle and had capacity for about six engines. At the time of the fire, Engine No 19 was in the building but escaped being burned, with the exception of the cabin an a little wood work.

The loss will probably be from $2500 to $3000, which is covered by insurance. A lot of tools were also destroyed. The Company will rebuild a round house on the old site with a larger capacity.
