DAYTON-Ella Ortlieb, the little daughter of Patrolman Frank Ortlieg of Fourth Avenue, had her head badly cut Tuesday evening in an accident on the Fourth Avenue hill. She was unconscious for some time.

THIEVES-Two burglars and Officer Frank Ortlieb startled the residents of Dayton Ky. Wednesday night by a running fusillade that continued over four squares. Catching sight of the men ransacking the grocery of George Messman on Sixth Avenue, Ortlief chased them out the front door and over to the C&O Railroad where they disappeared. The men were searching the store for money, supposed to be concealed among the goods.

REWARDED-George Messman, the grocer of Sixth Avenue, Monday presented Patrolman Frank Ortlieg with a barrel of flour as a token of appreciation for services rendered when a recent attempt was made to burglarize his store. Ortlieb engaged in a fight with two burglars last week and it will be recalled a shot passed through his helment.

BURG:LARS-Henry McClure and Clarence Bidwell, two young men about Dayton Ky. were caught in the act of robbing a grocery store at Sixth and Berry st. Officers John Gratch and Frank Ortlieb found a panel had been cut from the back door. Drawing their revolvers they entered the same way shouted to the boys to hold up their hands. The officers were about to fire when two voices said: "We surrender!"

DAYTON-Chief of Police Frank Ortlieb sustained an accident yesterday afternoon that may prove serious. In reaching into a barrel, the forefinger of the right hand became snagged on a rusty nail and the flesh pierced to the bone. Today the member is badly swollen and gives intense pain.
