NEWPORT

FREE NEGROES-We notice that the subject of the removal of free negroes from Newport is receiving some attention from our citizens. The following is the section of the laws of the State relied on for this purpose:

If any free negro shall be found loitering about the city, he shall be found guilty of misdemeanor and upon conviction, thereof, he shall be hired out at auction to the highest bidder for a term not exceeding six months.
