WOUNDED-Petty Officer 2-C George E McFerren Jr. 24 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. E McFerren Sr. 1118 Central avenue, Newport, suffered a shrapnel wound of the arm and hand while aboard a Navy LST, which was landing Marines for the invasion of Inchon Korea.

Petty Officer McFerren, a veteran of World War II, was a member of the Naval Reserve and was recalled to duty just 30 days before he was wounded. He went overseas for combat duty 15 days after being recalled, the parents said. The Navy Officer, who had served three years in the Pacific Theater during the war, took a refresher course at Great Lakes, Ill. Prior to re-entering the service, he was an employee of the US Internal Revenue Bureau office, Cincinnati.
