PFC George Frederick Sacksteder, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Sacksteder of Twelve Mile, Campbell county, died Monday in a naval hospital in
Oakland Cal. of wounds received while fighting with the Marines at Cape
Gloucester Jan 2.
He had been in the hospital since June 2 for treatment of a wound in his right hip. He had been in the Marines since January 1942. Pfc. Sacksteder was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Court 1402 and the Young Men's Society of SS Peter and Paul Church. Besides his parents, he leaves three brothers, Cpl. William J serving with the Army in Italy; Louis of Alhambra, Cal. and Charles at home and a sister, Mrs. Ben Lauer of Twelve Mile.
Arrangements are being handled by Tharp and Stith funeral home, Alexandria Ky.
