STERN ORDER-For the first time in the history of Dayton Ky. a boy has been given the alternative of being punished publicly whipped in the presence of Police Judge Mader in his courtroom or go to jail. Harry Shields, 14, Second av. was arrested by Chief of Police Frank Ortlieb, who charged him with jumping on C&O trains. Shields had been before the court before and when the court convened this morning Judge Mader, after hearing the evidence, assessed a fine of $5 and costs, which Shields could not pay. Mader told the boy to get his father and return to the courtroom at 7 pm tonight.

Said the Judge: "I will certainly see that Shields father whips him in my presence of he will go to jai9l to serve the fine out. I will stand by to see that no cruelty is done, but he will have to be punished until I say it is enough." The matter is now up to Shields and his father as to which alternative to choose.
