PFC. Herbert J West, 21, brother of Mrs. Donna Pangburn of 1129
Liberty street, Newport, previously listed as missing in action in France since
Oct 8, has written his mother that he is now in an European hospital and was
re-classified to a non-combat soldier.
Serving with the infantry in the Fifth Army, Pfc. West entered the service in January 1943, and was sent overseas in October 1943. A veteran of the North African and Italian campaigns and the battle of the Anzio beachhead, Pfc. has a brother Pfc. Leonard West, serving with the Army in Luxembourg.
