Hillcrest Cemetery-Anderson Township

E-I

This cemetery is located in Anderson Township across the Ohio River from Dayton and Newport.  The entrance is located at 749 Sutton Road on the west side and a quarter mile south of Eversole Road.

A private burial ground deed for African Americans was recorded July 10, 1926 by Guy B Lancaster and others.  In 1959 and again in April 1961, the Hamilton County Commissioners contracted for a total of 885 graves in Section 4 for US Military Veterans.  In 1866 the Union Baptist Church in Cincinnati assumed the responsibility of upkeep of grounds and records.  In the late 1970s, the cemetery declined in use.

The inscriptions from gravestones that could be found were recorded in April 1989 by Barbara Furr, Beverly R Hafemeister, Fannie Mallory, Mary H Remler and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Stern.

*-Unplatted Section-right of entrance driveway
@-Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 no visible line of separation
#-Unplatted Section-left of entrance driveway
+Names are from the Veteran Grave Registration File at the Hamilton County Courthouse
as of 1940; no gravestones were found in 1988
