Hoyt Baker Farm Gravesite

This cemetery is on Clay Ridge Road in Grant’s Lick, just a few hundred yards from the intersection of Griffin Ford Road. It lies on the north side of Clay Ridge in the corner between that road and the driveway to the Baker residence. It is very close to the road. Probably less than 50 feet.
By the roadside beyond Claryville is a triangular tract, outlined with a stone wall, in which there are many graves marked only with field stones. A child's grave has a broken headstone with only the death date and age remaining.

I finally located this site when I discovered that Hoyt Baker was the father of Martha Pelfrey. I called her and asked about the cemetery. She said that indeed it was located on the farm where she grew up. She said there were several stones standing at one time but no one thought of recording the information. Her nephew currently owns the property. I drove out and checked the site on Oct 12, 2006. Martha’s brother happened to be there and he took me right to the location of the cemetery. At present, no inscribed headstones are standing. There are a few fieldstones that appear to have been used as headstones. The stone wall mentioned above has collapsed and the area was covered with a lot of leaves and dead branches. I took a couple of pictures and a GPS reading. I intend to revisit the site when all the leaves are off the trees. I have permission to rake the area to look for inscriptions on stones.
