MRS. WILLIAM T DANIEL
Mrs. Icy Dora Daniel, eldest daughter of the late Jonathan and Mary Ellen Clemans, was born Feb. 6, 1875 and departed from us on Sunday morning, May 21, 1944, aged 69 years, 3 months and 15 days. She united with the Grants Lick Baptist Church during the pastorate of Rev J W Beagle and was baptized Nov 7, 1903, thus was a follower of the Savior for 41 years. She was united in marriage to Wm T Daniel on Jan 2, 1895, thus they were in their 50th year of wedded life in which they shared their joys and sorrows together.
To this union eight children were born; Roy and Ernest Daniel, Mrs. Florine Hodge, Mrs. Warule Gosney and Mrs. Emil Deatherage all of Newport, Mrs. Alpha Weckbach of Covington, Mrs. Trevor Thornton of California Ky. and Mrs. Harley Baker of Alexandria, RI. There are 28 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Worth Gosney of Grants Lick, also three brothers, Edw Clemans of Paducah, Albert Clemons of Dayton Ky. and Leonard Clemans of South Newporh. Besides her own family of children, Mrs. Daniel reared to manhood two grandsons, Ernest and Alvin Daniel, whose mother was taken by death when they were quite young and she was in every way a devoted mother to them. She has nine grandsons serving in the armed forces of our country. She served in many ways to her family, her church, her community and her country and will be greatly missed by her beloved companion, her devoted children and grandchildren and her many other relatives and friends.
On Tuesday afternoon just before departing from the home, the immediate family assembled in the room where they loved ones dressed in orchid velvet, so sweetly reposed in her beautiful couch, surrounded with lovely flowers, short services were held, after which a goodly number of relatives and friends followed in procession to the Grants Lick Baptist Church where many others had assembled for the last sad rites.
Rev Leo Drake of Newport officiated. Having known her so well he spoke quite highly of the good life she had lived and the good she had done, Mrs. M B Baker served as pianist and the choir sang "What a Good Friend We Have In Jesus" "The Havens of Rest" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" The following relatives served as casket bearers; Malcolm Thornton, Ernest Daniel, Robert Deatherage, Leroy Jett. Grandchildren served as flower bearers. They were Misses Beryl Hodge, Margie Garnet and Lois Baker, Opal and Rosie Daniel, Mrs. Marie Daniel, Mrs. Nora Jacobs, Mrs. Lucille First, Bernard and Delbert Deatherage, Bobby Daniel and Ronald Baker.
The was gently bourne to her last resting place in Oakland Cemetery.
