NEWPORT NEWS

BOLD ROBBERY-On Sunday morning between eleven and twelve o'clock, some daring thief entered the dwelling house of Mr. Isaac Gough, a well known steamboat pilot on Columbia street, between Mayo and Ringgold, during the absence of Mr. G and family at church, and robbed it of a considerable quantity of silverware and other articles.

A negro woman, employed about the house as servant, came in while the rascal was engaged in his thieving operations.  He drew a huge knife and threatened to cut her throat if she made any alarm.  The woman ran out, however, and the robber, fearing detection made off with a portion of his booty.

This is one of the most audacious robberies that has been perpetrated in Newport for a long time.
