Prominent Campbell County Citizen

 

Jack H Thatcher, aged 79, retired President of the Bank of Alexandria with a branch office in Highland Heights, died at 11 am Sunday, April 22, 1973 at St Luke Hospital, Ft. Thomas.

Mr. Thatcher had retired as President of the Bank, Dec. 31, a bank that he had been associated with for 35 years.  he was its president for 28 years.  Mrs. Thatcher's late father, Frank S Thatcher, founded the bank 66 years ago.  Mr. Thatcher had been in ill health for the past few years, having suffered a series of heart attacks.  However, he continued at his post of duty after recovery until his decision to retire the first of January.

Mr. Thatcher was born in the home at 7940 Alexandria Pike, Alexandria, in which he lived his entire life.  He, his father and grandfather were all born in the same room in the house, originally a log cabin that had been remodeled and enlarged.  Mr. Thatcher was a land developer and had developed several sub-divisions that contributed greatly to the growth of Alexandria, as well as other at Mentor, Cold Spring, Crestview and Highland Heights, about a dozen in all.

Mr. Thatcher was also widely known as a show horseman and had ridden and driven many show horses at the Alexandria Fair and at other Fairs.  he also owned a large herd of black Angus cattle of which he was proud.  He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lillian Cole Thatcher, three daughters, Mrs. Edith Beford and Mrs. Lillian Shaw, both of Alexandria and Mrs. Elizabeth Klem, Cincinnati, also three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Lemon, Cincinnati, Mrs. Fran Kees, Alexandria and Mrs. Ruth Ehlen, Orange Park, Fla. and five grandchildren.

Mr. Thatcher was an excellent businessman very successful in the banking business, and in his passing Campbell County has lost one of its fine leaders.  Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at the Alexandria Funeral Home.  Bank directors served as honorary pallbearers.
