From guardian of the "first sack" to guardian of a city jail is the role played by Edward "Ducky" Mader of Newport. For years prior the popular "Ducky" guarded the first base for minor league teams.
He recently was appointed assistant jailer in Newport and Wednesday morning gook the oath of office and assumed his duties.
