James Taylor

Kentucky Post, Friday, 26 July 1918, page 2

William Taylor, 20, of 1005 Columbia st. Newport is 100 per cent patriotic. Twice William Taylor slept in beds at Ft Thomas. Then he was rejected because he was too light. He slept in naval bunks, too, for several times he has tried to enlist, in the navy. Certainly he tried to enlist in the Marine Corps.

In all, William Taylor, son of James Taylor, deputy Newport Jailer, has tried to enlist nine times. Army officers reject him because he is three pounds too light. He has tried everything to gain weight, he says, but it seems to be of no avail. Army doctors also told him two of his toes were crossed and Bill politely told them to cut one of them off it it would help him to get at the Hun.

His case has been taken up directly with Washington officials.
