AIRMAN-Airman First Class James E Stanfield, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. John T Stanfield, 1016 Washington avenue, Newport, has been killed while on duty in Germany. The airman had been stationed at Ramstein, Germany. He enlisted in October 1951; trained at Camp Toole, Utah, and was a former student of Newport High School and an employee of Parks Woodworking Co. Cincinnati.
His parents were notified that he had been shot to death in a telegram signed by Brig. Gen. R J Reeves, director of military personnel headquarters of the Air Force. The telegram stated:
"It is with deep regret that I officially inform you of the death of your son Airman First Class James E Stanfield. He died in Germany on 10 August 1954, as the result of a gunshot wound. A letter contain further details will follow. The mortuary branch, director of supply and services, this headquarters, will also communicate with you by letter concerning your son's remains. Please accept my sincere sympathy in this hour of grief."
