James K Stone is at death's door at his home in the Highlands and his physician reports he cannot live more than a few hours. He is in his seventies.

James K Stone, 70, died at his home in the Highlands, in Campbell County, Friday afternoon at 2:30 from typhoid fever. His death was momentarily expected and in the morning his physician announced he had but a few hours to live.

He was one of the most prominent figures in the county and was identified with politics and city affairs for a number of years. He was a leading manufacturer in Newport and was one of the prominent members of Grace M E Church. At the time of his death he was associated with the firm of Stone & Miller, a planning mill firm on Monmouth st. Newport, successors to the firm of Stone & Veith.

He was a man of much worth in the community, identified with many business enterprises and was prominent in church affairs. He was largely instrumental in securing the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and had much to do with procuring the excellent water system for Newport. He was a liberal giver to charity and a great friend of the young men. He was a candidate of the Republican Berry for member of the Legislature and after an exciting campaign, was defeated by Congressman Berry by a small majority.

He came to Newport from Pennsylvania when a boy of 19. He married Miss Annie Locke, a daughter of one of Newport's oldest families. He accumulated a large estate. He leaves a widow and four children, Walter, Fred, Will and Mrs. Ruth Miller. These will be the pallbearers: Judge W J Hissem, F W Lampe, John Schneider, D R P Dimmick, John T Hart and Taylor Williams.

The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon from the residence in the Highlands at 2:30 pm. Services will be held at the chapel in Evergreen Cemetery at 3 pm. The Chaplain at Ft Thomas will assist in conducting the services.

Hundreds of persons visited Evergreen Cemetery Sunday afternoon to pay their last respects to the late James K Stone. The funeral cortege left the home in the Highlands at 2:30  and proceeded to the chapel in the cemetery, where the services were conducted by Rev Otis Luce, of Grace M E Church, Newport, assisted by the Ft Thomas Chaplain, Rev O J Nave.

The pallbearers were Fred Lampe, John Schneider, Taylor Williams, John T Hodge, Judge W T Hissem and D R P Dimmick.
