WOUNDED-James A Matt, son of George Matt, 7 Garden Place, Newport, a member of the American Air Forces in Africa, has been wounded in action and is now recovering from his injuries in a hospital "somewhere in Africa."
This was disclosed in a letter received Tuesday by Mayor Lee G Broering of Newport from the Newport soldier, who has been in the armed forces for the last four years. The wounded air corps member tells of "cigarets smoking like ropes" and his hope of flying again within a short time.
