FIRST SHERIFF-James A Piner, the first Sheriff of Campbell County ever elected by popular vote and who served during the early fifties, was a caller upon Sheriff Miller  of Newport, late Tuesday. Ex-Sheriff Piner now resides at St Joseph MO. and is a member of the Missouri Legislature. Prior to Piner's election it was customary for the oldest Magistrate to serve as Sheriff.
