Jailer John Bitzer

Kentucky Post, Wednesday, 2 September 1896, page 5

Jailer John Bitzer, of Newport, returned from a trip to California O. Wednesday. He was accompanied by a man name Hoffman from Madison Ind. The Jailer was given a tip that "Shike" Collis McKee, one of the prisoners who escaped from the Newport Jail some time ago, during the Jackson and Walling trials, was at that place.

The Jailer went there and was informed that McKee was at Lawrenceburg. Bitzer telegraphed the authorities of that Indiana town and will leave for there tonight on a boat.
