John J Hodge, 51, a freight engineer on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, was killed yesterday afternoon when he fell under the wheels of another engine, which passed over his body. Hodge, who resided at 1818 Madison av. was on his regular run and had left his engine at Shawhan to get some orders at the station there. After receiving them he jumped on another engine and rode to where his engine was standing.

In attempting to alight from the moving engine he lost his footing and fell under the wheels and was killed almost instantly. Hodges had been in the employ of the road for years, being one of the oldest in the service. The remains were brought to Covington last night and were taken to his residence. He is survived by a widow and four children, two son and two daughters.

The funeral of John J Hodge, the L&N engineer who was run over and killed Sunday afternoon at Shawhan Ky. will take place tomorrow afternoon from the residence, 1818 Madison av. at 2 pm. Bunton will officiate. Interment in Highland Cemetery.
