NEWPORT

DEATH OF REV JOHN VOLL-The tolling of the bell of Corpus Christi Church on Wednesday night at a quarter to nine o'clock conveyed to the congregation the sad news that their pastor, who had been for twenty-two years in charge of the church, had just breathed his last.

Rev Father John Voll was born in Zahlbach in the Diocese of Wuixburg, Bavaria on May 4th, 1815. He received his education from the Order of St Augustine in Muenuerstadt and in Dallington. In the year 1840 he came to the United States and established over the Church of St Boniface, in Louisville by the Right Rev Bishop Flaggett.

Afterward he took charge of the congregation at Four mile in this county, and in 1853 he was appointed to the charge of Corpus Christi Church, then the only Catholic Church in Newport. He has since witnessed the growth of two powerful congregations besides his own.

The funeral will take place from Corpus Christi Church at nine o'clock this morning. The remains will be followed to their resting place by a large number of the clergy and by the members of the St Martin's Society as well as other members of the Catholic Church.
