Miss Josephine Meyers of 34 W 11th st. Newport, will be the Newport community nurse after April 1, the Newport Health and Welfare association announced Friday. Miss Meyers is a graduate of the Speers Hospital training school, Dayton.

Miss Meyers will take the place of Mrs. Clara Bloom, who recently resigned to take up private nursing. Miss Estelle Tressler has been acting in her place.

Miss Josephine Meyers, who recently was elected Newport community nurse, took up her duties Monday. Mrs. Hunt of Henderson, a member of the Kentucky Tuberculosis league, visited Newport Monday and with Miss Meyers investigated the conditions of the city.

Miss Josephine Meyers, Newport community nurse, Thursday sent $100 work of Christmas Red Cross seals to the soldiers at Ft Thomas reservation. Captain Stark, who will have charge of the sale of the stamps, told Miss Meyers he felt sure he would sell $100 worth to the soldiers alone.

A new supply of cards has been received in Newport from Washington for the government test for the weighting and measuring of children under 5 years of age. Three centers for the tests have been established at Arnold School, St Stephen School and at the office of the community nurse, Miss Josephine Meyers, in the Colonial Flat Building, Third and Monmouth streets, Newport.

A recruiting office for the enlistment of women between the ages of 19 and 35 in the United States Student Nurse Reserve will be opened Wednesday at the office of the Newport Civic and Industrial Association, 628 Monmouth st. Newport. The recruits may be candidates for either the army nursing school or for a civilian training school.

The office will be in charge of these young women, who are graduate nurses: Miss Susan Salt, Miss Etta Haverkamp, Miss Margaret Kautz and Miss Josephine Meyers. Plans were made to recruit women for the nurse reserve.

Baby house clinic was open Friday in the house department headquarters in the Newport Courthouse. Mothers are invited to bring their babies and have them thoroughly examined by expert nurses. Miss Joseph Meyers and Miss Olive Soden will conduct the examination. Prizes will be given for babies who have gained the most health point within six months.

Josephine Meyer, Campbell co. community nurse and Olive Soden, assistant nurse, aided by a number of school children, are preparing Christmas Seals to mail to 8000 residents in the county. Proceeds of the sale of seals will be applied to anti-tuberculosis campaign fund.

Report for the month of March submitted by Josephine Meyers, Newport community nurse of the Public Health and Welfare League, disclosed Saturday 418 visits were made throughout the month. The report shows that 375 visits were made to adults while 108 calls were made on new born babies.

Among the 98 cases which were handled by Miss Meyers and Miss Olive Soden, assistant community nurse, most of these patients suffered la grippe and various other ailments. Forty social visits were made regarding relief, medical, hospital and material. Five baby clinics were conducted and arrangements were made for the transfer of three children to the hospital. The report also states all children of the Newport Day Nursery were kept under observation of the two nurses.
