Dr. Julius Eugene Pinguely

Julius Eugene Pinguely was born October 9, 1858 in Nashville Tennessee to Jules Alphonso and Clara V (Strachauer) Pinguely.  His father, Jules was born December 26, 1828 in Paris, France and died September 8, 1888.  His mother, Clara was born 20 March 1841 in Germany and died May 1, 1917. Both of his parents are buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Grants Lick.

 Julius' father who was a school teacher, moved the family to Cincinnati where they operated a dancing school.  Julius graduated from the Medical College of Ohio in March 1888 and started a practice in Grants Lick which was near where his family had located.  From the 1900 Census, the Pinquely residence was at Persimmon Grove Road and Licking Turn Pike in Grants Lick.

On August 28 1901 Dr. Julian E. married Nellie Rosetta Baker who was born February 10, 1878;  daughter of Thomas Jefferson Baker & Minerva Rosetta Bryan from Grants Lick Ky.

3. Donald Eugene Pinguely b-6 Apr 1910 in Ross; d-20 Nov 1928 in a plane crash in Cincinnati. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery Nov 27.

In 1910 Dr. Pinguely family resided at Lot #464 Melbourne Ave in Melbourne. In 1915 Walker Benjamin and Margaret Elizabeth Ashford Newman and family from Newport and were located in Melbourne across from the Pinguelys. In the summer of 1917, Dr. Pinguely ran for county commissioner.

 Ronald Newman says he often rode with Dr. Pinguely caring for his patients in his model T.  Dr. Pinguely was Chairman of the Trustees when Melbourne was incorporated in 1912.  His brother Clarence Philip Pinguley was also a trustee.

The anti-Rhinock people of Campbell County held rump conventions in both city and county. The country convention was held at Alexandria Courthouse. Resolutions were adopted instructing the delegates to vote for Judge T Hodge. One of the following delegates were chosen; Dr J E Pinguely.

Clyde Myers and John Moore of the Life Saving Squad arrived at Ernest Hines home in Silver Grove just 16 minutes after they had received a call from Dr. J E Pinguely, who said that nothing but a pulmotor could save Hines' life. The squad worked with Hines and revived him.

Ralph Grinn, 115 Robson av. Ft Thomas, junior partner of the G E Grimm Lumber Co. Brent Ky. suffered the loss of two fingers early Saturday when his left hand was caught in a saw at the mill. He was treated by Dr. J E Pinguley of Melbourne Ky.

Mrs. Audrey True, Melbourne, suffered severe injuries late Saturday when the auto in which she was riding with her son overturned after colliding with a laundry truck on River rd. at Silver Grove. Mrs. True was treated by Dr. J E Pinguely who said her condition is not serious. She suffered a rib fracture, back sprain and cuts and bruises.

On April 21, 1938 he was honored by the Kentucky Medical Association with a banquet at the Highland Country Club in Ft. Thomas as a member of the association who had completed 50 years of practice in Northern Kentucky.

Addressing a meeting of the Campbell-Kenton Medical society last night at the Highland Golf Club, Dr. Willard D Haines launched his attack upon the socialized medicine. He slumped to his chair, physicians came to his aid but he was dead. The testimonial dinner arranged by the society physicians to eulogize "The Country Doctor," Dr. J E Pinguely, Melbourne physician, who recently concluded 50 years of active practice among the rural folk of eastern Campbell County.

During his career he had a number of papers published several of which were; A Treatment for Cancer in The Medical World Sept. 1929; Epilepsy and Dementia Praecox and a Few of Its Allegory, Kentucky Medical Journal October 1942.

 He died at Speers Memorial Hospital in Dayton January 16, 1947, and his ashes were buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
