Dorthy Kathleen "Kathy" Adams

The Kentucky Post, August 3, 2005

Dorthy Kathleen Carmichael Adams was someone who always tried to see the best in people.  "I was very fortunate to have her as a wife" said Ted Adams of his wife. Mrs. Adams, of Cold Spring, died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.  She was 64.

Dorthy was an avid traveler and genealogist. "She's been to every state in the nation and all but one province in Canada." Mr. Adams said.  She'd also been to several countries in South America.  The two traveled together for five years in a recreational vehicle across the United States.  They also toured Europe, and considered England and Switzerland their favorite places.  Dorothy also traveled extensively in the southern United States, tracking down members of her extended family.  She had very little family and she knew little about her mother's side of the family because of her parents divorce.  Many of her relatives lived in Georgia.

She wrote several family history books, published eight books in all, but she did not copyright the works to allow their sales to profit the Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society, of which she was a member.  She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended the University of Florida and although she didn't graduate, she emphasized college education to her grandchildren.  A son, Thomas August Mitchell proceeded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Clay Carmichael Mitchell of Edgewood and James Wagner Mitchell of Highland, Michigan; a stepdaughter Beverly Sue Adams of Fayetteville NC; stepsons Mark Todd Adams of Sharpsville Indiana and Norman Tedd Adams of Hamilton Oh and her stepmother Lillian Carmichael of Miami Florida.

Services will be at 11:30 am Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Alexandria Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society, 8352 E Main Street, Alexandria, KY 41001.
