VICTIMS-Bodies of two young swimmers who were drowned in Campbell county Sunday had been recovered Monday. The victims were Kenneth Selzer, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Selzer, 1107 Central avenue Newport, who lost his life in the Licking River and John Edward Sorton, 9 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sorton, 1610 Main street, Cincinnati. The body of the Newport youth was found at 9:30 pm in a 40 foot pool seven miles south of Newport in the rear of Knotty Pine Inn, Licking pike
The Selzer youth was with several teammates who had played ball at Alexandria Sunday afternoon. They stopped at the inn and went into the Licking River which runs at the rear of the tavern. Three companions, Jerry Williams, Tom Williams and James Smith, all of Newport, tried in vain to rescue Kenneth. They told Campbell County Patrolmen Thomas Fashlbush and George Stortz they were swimming about 25 feet south of some riffles in the stream. They said their friend was seized with a cramp. A good swimmer, he became frightened and tried to grab his rescuers. Jerry William said he was pulled under by the drowning youth.
Kenneth was graduated with the senior class of Newport High School Wednesday night. He was regular second baseman on the baseball team. Three men, Paul Herbst, Alexandria and Howard Smith and Sam Adams, Newport, recovered teh body five hours after the drowning. It was removed to the Muehlenkamp funeral home, Newport. Services will be held there at 2 pm Wednesday with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate, Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 pm Tuesday.
Besides his parents the youth leaves a sister, Mrs. Cora Mae Tharp, Ft Thomas.
