WOUNDED-A letter received Saturday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D Giancola, 801 Linden avenue, Newport, gave details of the wounding of PFC Lawrence M Giancola, 20, in Korean fighting recently. Knocked out by concussion as he was blown off a mountain by an artillery shell, the Newport soldier also was shot in the shoulder as he regained consciousness during a battle behind enemy lines.
He wrote that he is now in a Japanese evacuation hospital.
