Silk and rayon ties and sports shirts, valued at $1500 were stolen Monday from the auto of Harry Sokol, Detroit salesman, when parked in front of 508 York street, Newport. Leroy Nie, 136 W 13th street, Newport, told police two pair of trousers were stolen from his dry cleaning truck while engaged in making deliveries.

PFC Leroy Nie, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nie, of 136 W 13th street, Newport, died March 8 of wounds suffered in the battle of Iwo Jima, the Navy Department informed his parents. He was a member of the Fifth Marine Division fighting on the east coast of the tiny island. It was his first battle action.

The Marine had been overseas since September and in service since March 1943. A Memorial Mass will be sung for him at 8 am Wednesday at St Vincent de Paul Church, Newport.

Newport. Funeral Saturday, February 12, from the John J Radel Co Funeral Home, 822 York st. Newport at 8:30 am. Requiem High Mass at St Vincent de Paul Church at 9 am. Interment St Stephen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, 6 to 10 pm.
