KILLED IN ACTION-Pfc. Murray Jones Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Jones Sr. 315 W Sixth street, Newport, was killed in action in Italy Jan 4, according to a telegram received Thursday from the War Department. The 18 year old soldier had been overseas since September. A brother, Pfc. Robert Jones, is stationed in Panama. He also leaves his wife, Mrs. Aleen Jones, whom he married while on furlough in August and who lives in South Newport.

RITES-Memorial services for Pfc. Murray Jones, Newport, who was killed in action in January, will be held at 7:30 pm Sunday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 514 York street. Newport. All boys and girls whoever attended Camp Sunshine and all former councilors and other workers are requested to attend the services for Pfc. Jones, who was a camper at Camp Sunshine for a number of years.

Pfc. Jones who was 20, was the first camper to be killed in the present war. Rev J Lyle Shaw, pastor of the church, said members of the Christian Council will be in charge of the music. the camp, located at Mentor, Ky. is operated by the Campbell County Sunday School Association of which D W Snyder is president.

SERVICES-Services for Pfc. Murray M Jones, 315 W Sixth street, Newport, will be held at the Betz funeral home, Newport at 2 pm Thursday. Rev Harold W Barkhau is to officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 10 pm Wednesday.

Pfc. Jones, a member of the 168th Infantry, was killed in action Jan 4, 1944 in the North African area. He was 21. He was a former Newport High School student and football player. Prior to entering service he was employed as a machinist at the Wright Aeronautical Corp. Lockland O. Rankin-Prout Post Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct services at the funeral home at 8 pm Wednesday and at the cemetery.

He leaves his parents Mr. and Mrs. Murray Jones Sr. three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wagner, Mrs. Betty Turner and Miss Shirley Jones, all of Newport; three brothers Walter and Lyle Jones, both of Newport, and Robert Jones, Covington and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Frank Stanbusch, Newport.
