NEWPORT-Capt R G Shinkle, member of Council from Fourth Ward, was elected Secretary of the Cincinnati, Louisville and New Orleans Pilot Association, yesterday.

The officers of the Hayes and Wheeler guards meet at their headquarters tonight.

The Thespian Democratic Club was greeted by a large crowd last night.

Mrs. Schwartz, jailer elect, denies voting in Paris Ky. and consequently is eligible to the office.

Fred Reuce has opened a billiard saloon on York street.

Billy McDonald, Frank Bertle and Doodle Daniels, three notorious Covington roughs, attacked a man  by the name of Tinker, on the corner of Bellevue and Hubbard streets, and beat him up in a frightful maunca.

The Pond Creek (Campbell Co) Post office has been changed to Claryville.  The name is to take place after the first of January.
