Nicholas Cherry was born in 1774 in Pennsylvania to Aaron and Mary Cherry and died 17 Nov 1853 near Alexandria.  Death information comes from the Kentucky Historical Society Register, July 1947, Volume 45, No 152.

In the 1790 First Census of Kentucky, there are two Cherry names; Aaron listed May 20, 1789 and Moses Cherry listed June 2, 1789.

Aaron and Mary Cherry's daughter named Susanna Cherry who married Daniel Allen Thatcher in Harrison County 5 June 1797, moved to Alexandria with Daniel and died there in 1806 during childbirth.

Aaron and Mary Cherry's daughter Sarah married Ebenezer Griffing, son of Ebenezer, on 9 Sep 1799 in Campbell Co, the bondsman being Thomas Griffing.

"This is to certify that you have leave to Grant Lysences for the marriage between my Daughter Sary and Ebenezer Griffing." Signed Thomas Adams, Aaron Cherry Junr. Aaron Cherry and Mary Cherry.

From Cincinnati in 1841 by Charles Cist; Early Annals page 168

"February 5, 1800; Aaron Cherry's advertisement; "Whereas a certain woman who calls herself Mary, and has for a long time passed as my wife, but who is not, as we were never lawfully married, has eloped from my bed and taken with her my property to a considerable amount.  I hereby forewarn all persons not to trust her on my account, as I will pay no debts of her contracting."

A list of Delinquents returned by the Sheriff of Campbell County as insolvents and removed out of the county for 1807. "Aaron Cherry, gone over the Ohio"

Nicholas is first found in Campbell County on the 1800 tax list on September 1.  He was the only Cherry listed in the second census of Kentucky in 1800.  The first court order in his name was in July 1801.  For a complete listing of his deeds and court orders, see the

Nicholas had a daughter Frances born about 1810 who married William Ware 17 August 1835.  "Mr. Jn N Taliaferro, Sir, you will please grant a license to Mr. William Ware to Marry my daughter Franky Cherry and oblige your friend." Nicholas Cherry Attest-John Stevens.  Married 20 August 1835 by James Vickers.

In the 1850 census Nicholas is living with his daughter Mary "Polly" Dicken, who had married Charles Dicken, 1 April 1824. She was born in 1805 in Campbell County.

He had a son, John born 6 April 1803 who died 23 April 1873 in Gubser and was buried in the Persimmon Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  John's first marriage was to Mary York on 11 March 1827.

John's second marriage was to Sarah Carr. John's first wife Mary, and daughter Mary died in 1851 and a listing of the small family grave site and pictures is at the

The second marriage for John was as follows:
"I hereby certify that, on the 18th day of November 1853 John Cherry of Campbell County, 50 years old, born at Campbell County, widower was married to Sarah Carr of Campbell County, aged 48 years, born at Scott County, widow and single."
