DOUBLE-That Paul Maurer, 23, a former Newport resident and now residing in Chicago, had a double was revealed when the body of a man thought to have been Maurer was found dead on the C&O Railroad tracks in Maysville Ky. last Tuesday. Maurer disappeared from Newport some months ago and when the body was found the Coroner of Mason co. telegraphed Lieutenant of Police Liebert of Newport, to the effect that Tiny Meyers of Newport had been killed there.
The local police learned that Tiny or Paul Maurer, whose parents are dead, had an uncle living at Eighth and Patterson sts. The body was ordered sent to Newport and upon arrival Maurer's uncle, Lou Maurer, identified the remains and on Friday last they were buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Saturday, Miss Theresa Schied of Newport, a friend of Paul, received two letters from him both dated Chicago. H had seen in the papers he had been reported killed. He gave his address as 322 South Peoria st. Chicago. Two cousins of Maurer went to Chicago Sunday and they wired Chief of Police Ploeger that Maurer was there, safe and sound. Young Maurer is expected to return to Newport. It is believed now the body which was buried in the belief it was Paul Maurer, is that of a former resident of Cincinnati.
