Bellevue Ky. Betty Weber didn't approve of her husband keeping a handgun in thier pharmacy, but she understood it. Paul J Weber was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, she said. Weber and Charles Brian Lake, an ex-convict from Northern Kentucky, were shot to death Saturday during a robbery at Weber's drug store. Police in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are still looking for a short, slender man who they now believe killed both Weber and Lake.

Weber, 57, was still alive Saturday when his wife arrived at Weber's Prescription Pharmacy. "I was supposed to start work at noon and Paul was shot at 11. I got there in time and he lived long enough for me to tell him I loved him one more time."

Weber was pronounced dead on arrival at St Luke Hospital in Ft Thomas. He was shot once in the right side of the chest. Mrs. Weber said her husband must have believed the robbers were going to kill the clerks working at the store. Two men entered the store shortly after 11 am. The smaller man brandished a shiny gun and demanded a roll of tape. Clerks Jerry Schmidt and David Grome described the man. The robbers ordered Grome, 22, into the back room and Schmidt, in his 40s, on the floor so his hands and feet could be taped.

Weber stepped between Schmidt and Lake and said, "I'll give you my narcotics" and shot Lake with his 32-caliber revolver, Lake and Weber struggles. Then, the other robber fired two shots which hit Lake and Weber. The man ran out the door and escaped. Weber bought the pharmacy in March 1958 from his former employer.
