Kentucky Post, Tuesday, 6 May 1924, page 4

Thomas P Carothers is dead, and Campbell co and northern Kentucky has lost one of its most eminent and respected citizens. He came from a pioneer family of Campbell co, where he was born and where he lived his entire life. For almost half a century he was a practicing member of the Campbell co bar. During that time he held many position of public trust. He was a member of the State Legislature and city attorney of the city of Newport and always discharged his public duties with fidelity and ability.

During the World War he was chairman of the Selective Draft Board of Campbell County and he gave unstintingly of his time and ability in the performance of that very important and arduous work, and no draft board could have handled its affairs better. The enlisted men spoke of him with affection.

He always took an intense interest in the history and traditions of his county and city and was probably the vest versed in those matters at the time of his death. He was long identified with Evergreen Cemetery as a director and gave liberally of his time and ability to that, as he did to all other public affairs. He was a lawyer that practiced according to the best traditions and ethics of his profession. He always gave the other side a square deal and laid his cards on the table. He took an interest interest in his profession and in the association with his brother lawyers and he always attended the meetings of the Kentucky Bar Association to renew his acquaintanceship and friendship with his fellow members of the bar of the state.

In his personal characteristics he was gentle, kindly and companionable and made many friends. His passing will be regretted by the bar of Campbell co, where he practiced his profession and by the people generally who knew him and respected him.
