T Sgt. Thurman Rice, 28, husband of Ruth Rice, of 214 E Fourth
street, Newport, was killed in action Nov 3 in the fighting on Leyte Island, The
War Department notified his family. Believed to be the first northern Kentucky
soldier killed on Leyte, St. Rice entered the Army 20 months ago and was sent on
overseas duty in October 1943.
A native of Frankfort Ky. Sgt. Rice resided in Newport for the past nine years. He has two brothers in the service, S Sgt. Hollie B Rice and T Sgt. Robert Rice, both serving with the armed forces somewhere overseas.

FIELD OF HONOR-T Sgt. Thurman Rice, 28, husband of Mrs. Rice, of 214 E Fourth St. Newport, was killed in action on Leyte Nov 3, his wife has learned from the War Department. He had been in the service 20 months and overseas since October. Before entering the service he was employed at the Netherland Plaza. He was a native of Frankfort Ky. and had lived in Newport nine years. He also leaves two brothers.
